caracol market in filipinotown
Good tunes, friendly people & handcrafted gifts…

Entrance to the Caracol Marketplace
Walking into our first Caracol Marketplace, we immediately felt the welcoming vibe of the gallery & the perfect combo of a little bit of something for everyone. This semi-monthly event held at Tropico de Nopal Gallery Art-Space in Filipino Town (near Echo Park, L.A.) was definitely worth visiting.
The DJ was playing Stevie Wonder, transitioned to Velvet Underground & we bought PERFECT Jamaica tea drinks (with a hint of spice) to walk around with, while we perused the various artists & food stands.
People were totally in the holiday spirit & cheer was all around us. Pretty different than malls this time of year. Anyway, we totally recommend it.

Ready to walk the Caracol Marketplace
Sandy from Heart Moon in Los Angeles first told us about the marketplace & since we love her handmade, organic, natural, non-toxic, chemical-free, & eco-friendly – bath, beauty, & cleaning products. – we went to say “Hi” & of course, & to check it out.
Her products contain subtle scents & are great for anyone that is trying to detox their home or skin from chemicals.
Visit Heart Moon’s shop on Etsy.
Looking around we saw pinched ceramic bowls with rad spotted glazes, handcrafted wood button earrings (yep we bought them & they were nickel-free, too!) from 2ndwnd, children’s books with progressive stories & cool illustrations of Mexican wrestlers, & art inspired by peace & protest, too.

Caracol Market
CJ’s Angels is a family owned business that handcrafts Mexican Folk Art. Beautifully vibrant & mostly made of wood, my daughter found her 2016 Christmas ornament, along with a ornament 100% perfect for the person who will get it (don’t want to ruin the surprise!).
Theresa graciously gave her a holiday pin that she is saving for her school’s holiday performance in a few weeks, & totally made her day – reminding her of the difference that shopping small makes in our lives.
Our adventure (sort of) ended with us eating our vegetarian Thai food & relaxing in the sun across the street at Unidad Park.
Kind of perfect, with a view of DTLA behind us.
Happy Holidays!
