Strolling through Central Avenue
Years ago, we happened to be walking through the residential streets around East 43rd & Central Avenue.
100% accidentally stumbled across this mural & it sparked our curiosity: why was it here?

Did you know that Central Avenue is the original Jazz Corridor of Los Angeles?
We have to admit that we had no idea.
After digging around & doing some research on Central Avenue, we found a great piece by one of our favorite local story tellers, KCET- check it out: when central avenue swung.
Extending all the way from past South Los Angeles to Little Tokyo, Central Avenue is a bustling street filled with street-side historic buildings, local eateries & so much to see that we recommend you walk it.
Walking also makes it easier to wander down random, residential streets & to take in this historic, L.A. neighborhood.
Along Central Avenue, a welcoming “farmers market that could” now spills out onto the sidewalk & has turned into a thriving & valuable, neighborhood gem.
We’re thrilled that it’s hard to miss these days – ever been to the Central Avenue Farmers Market?
This SEELA operated market offers varieties of fresh fruits & vegetables (organic, too!), breads, prepared foods, cooking demonstrations & neighborhood resources.
The eggs here are pretty much our favorite – ask anyone who’s tried our quiche & they will tell you it has to be the fresh eggs.
Besides the fact that their assortment of vendors is amazing & they’ve created an inviting & welcoming market – we love the fact that this market works in partnership with Cal Fresh & Market Match making it affordable for more Angelenos.
This adventure was shorter than some of our others, what should we check out on our next adventure?
we remind Angelenos of what “living locally” has to offer.
barrio.la finds local companies making high quality, eco-friendly goods right here in Southern California.
Los Angeles has so much going on & is alive with eclectic neighborhoods, places to see & things to do – so while we’re at it – we keep you in the know about cool things going on in your own ‘hood & the cool people making it all happen.
