THE SHOPS at Adams Gateway
Exploring with no agenda & appreciating the adventure along the way can be JUST (if not more fun) as actually being at your destination.
Our magic formula for an interesting Los Angeles adventure usually involves metro, walking & not being entirely sure where you are, too.
West Adams has been one of our go-to-for-fun neighborhoods for years. Like some of our other favorites (Highland Park, Boyle Heights, DTLA, Santa Ana, Frogtown, Chinatown – just to name a few), it’s changing, but thankfully much of its charm & L.A. history remains.
We’ve walked the West Adams Angel Walk, checked out the architecture on Adams & nearby Wellington Square & shopped at the Adams/Vermont Farmers Market on Wednesday afternoons – but we had yet to check out the Adams Gateway.
The Shops at Adams Gateway had been on our list for waaaaay too long… and rightfully so. A community of artisanal boutique specialty shops in 9 colored shipping containers is as cool as it sounds – & we got to give cred to Racked Los Angeles for their short feature for hookin’ up our first scoop on the place.
First things first, try getting here via Metro’s Expo line. We know that unlimited, free parking is tempting in Los Angeles, but what’s the rush?
Welcoming outdoor space & eclectic art.
You will never give anyone another “MEH” card again if you pop into Life is Funny Press. Adam’s designs cover every occasion, in a funny & clever way.
We’re huge fans & especially dig those en Español.
Anyone else remember Just Tantau from it’s days in Venice?
Carol, the owner & I chatted (for probably way too long)…
Lot XI is filled with playful clothes, colorful patches & her handcrafted products- we bought some petite, fizzy bath bombs & a lotion bar.
If you’ve never tried a lotion bar, try hers- low impact with no plastic, moisturizing & smells amazing.
Have you passed JNJ BBQ a million times, too?
Time to stop- & ask them to recommend something for you. We did & our not-sure-exactly meat (ribs?), mac & cheese & corn bread were delicious.
Like eating on vacation delicious… yummy!
Sincerely,
